INITIATE TROOPS
Type: Effect Monster
Earth/Warrior/4/1000/1000
Sacrifice this card.  Destroy 1 Monster on the Field.

Pros
- It’s a monster effect so you can destroy a monster before your opponent can activate traps.
- It can be a good top decker!
- Other then sacrificing a single summon for the turn, it’s not much of a cost…
Cons
-You have to sacrifice it to use it’s effect
-1000 ATK points. If you don’t use it right away, it’s not going to last too long.
- Uses up your normal summon for that turn.

When  I was newbie, (Ahh memories…) I didn’t like this card. I never understood why it was so good, 1000 attack, and you sacrifice it to destroy only one monster. Also, it’s restricted to one. So naturally, I thought this card was crap as a newbie.

But has time changed. As I got more experience I learned why this card was so powerful. Can you imagine how it would be like if this  card wasn’t restricted at all?! The most game breaking cards in the game would be rendered nearly helpless, such as Android Psycho Shocker. Now, in my opinion, this is a MUST HAVE card in a field control and in a warrior deck.

For warrior decks, you should know, clearing your opponents field is a good thing, attacking directly is better then attacking a monster, you deal more damage that way and you come closer to reducing your opponents life points down to a 0, thus accomplishing a good warrior beat down decks win condition.

A good warrior beat down deck can inflict 7000 damage in one nice turn, but chances are, you’re not going to accomplish that unless you can properly clear your opponent’s field away. Now, you can’t use Man Eating Bug in a warrior deck, so you go for Initiate Troops. Not only is it’s effect fast, but it is VERY searchable by many warrior based cards despite the banned Black Forest Witch and Critter.

On the down side, this monster has a very low attack, and if you don’t use it’s effect right away, chances are it won’t last very long. It’s not often that your opponent uses a monster with 900 attack as offense and if your opponent has a low ATK power monster at all, it’s not used for attacking.

7 / 10- I can’t give it higher then a seven because it takes up your normal summon for that turn, and in a lot of decks, a normal summon can mean a lot. However, as long as this card has been around, it’s still very useful.
