Card 10: 5/21/04
Severing Samurai/Sasuke Samurai
Air(Wind) /Warrior/4/500/800
If this Monster attacks a Monster in face-down defense mode,
don't go to the Damage Step, and the Monster is destroyed while
in face-down defense mode.
Pros
-Stops effects such as Killer Tomato/Mystic Tomato and monsters like it.
-Stops Quick Squirrel/Nimble Momonga and Giant Virus/Giant Germ.
-Basically makes reverse (flip) effect monsters useless.
-All-around searchable.  Great with Book of the Moon (Book of Moon).

Cons
-Weak attack and defense.
-Cannot negate the monsters it sends to the cemetery (graveyard).  ie: Black Forest Witch/Witch of the Black Forest and Critter/Sangan still have thier effects activated.

This is a remarkably strong card.  While its attack and defense are laughable, and its picture is humorous and cartoony, this is a serious killer.

How many times have you run head-first into a Man Eating Bug/Man Eater Bug or that dreaded Soul Hunting Spirit/Spirit Reaper?  Now, you never have to even see them again.

This card's effect can be abit hard for new players to comprehend, so heres a light explaination:
This card does not flip the monster.  Instead, it skips the damage step completely.  This means that no matter how powerful the defense of the face-down monster was, it is sent to the cemetery.  Impressive huh?

This can open a hole in your opponent's defense and allow massive damage.

Now, what happens after?  You have a 500 attack monster on the field, almost asking for an ass-kicking from giants like Gemini Elf or Goblin Strike Team/Goblin Attack Force.

A good defense is the only thing saving this little guy from certain death, and Book of the Moon can give you the greatest advantage in the duel.  Just activate the book, watch your opponent's monster switch face-down, and end it with Severing Samurai.

Being a warrior, it finds itself very comfortable in a Warrior Beatdown, and in several other beatdown decks.  Pump this monster into a 2000+ monster and your opponent will have one heck of a time.

7/10- Its power is very nice.  Great for clearing the field of a nasty reverse effect, and can easily allow you that one-hit-kill you were waiting for.  But its drastically low stats are pathetic.  Easy pickings for most of the monsters in the game.  Protect this monster well, and maybe it becomes a 8/10 instead.
